Shlomo Himmel, RN, BSN, Esq.
I am an attorney licensed in New Jersey and New York, admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, and a Registered Nurse with hands-on clinical experience in emergency medicine. I received my Juris Doctorate from Brooklyn Law School, my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Rutgers University, and my degree in Political Science from Touro University.
Most attorneys will tell you they understand what's at stake for their clients. I've actually been there. In addition to practicing law, I worked as an Emergency Room nurse at Level I trauma centers, where I stood beside patients and families during some of the hardest moments of their lives — medical crises, end-of-life decisions, the conversations no one ever feels ready for. That experience gave me more than empathy. It gave me a firsthand understanding of healthcare systems, advance directives, and the very real consequences that inadequate planning can leave behind for the people we love.
At The Himmel Law Firm, I focus on estate planning, elder law, probate administration, and real estate matters. My combined background in law and clinical medicine means I can speak both languages — and explain complex decisions in terms that actually make sense, whether we're drafting a healthcare proxy, guiding a family through probate, or closing a real estate transaction.
Over the course of my career, I have served as Ethics Attorney for the Township of Edison, taught bioethics and public health law as an Adjunct Professor at Hofstra University, and contributed to legislative initiatives in both New York and New Jersey, including legislation expanding in-home care options for families. Earlier in my career, I served as Communications Director for a member of the New York State Senate.
Outside the office, I have spent nearly a decade volunteering as an EMT and serving as Assistant Chief for Hatzalah of Union County. I have also served on the board of Jewish Family Services. These roles reflect the same commitment that drives my legal practice: showing up for people at difficult moments and making sure they have what they need to move forward.
If you're looking for an attorney who will take the time to truly understand your situation, I'd welcome the conversation.
